Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe is played on a 3x3 game board. Just like the classic game, the person who first arranges their own symbol (X or O) 3 times in an uninterrupted line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) on the game board wins.
The twist in the Ultimate variant: Each of the 9 single fields in turn consists of a small, regular 3x3 Tic-Tac-Toe game. You cannot simply place your symbol in a single field. To claim a single field for the final score, you must first win the small game inside the single field.
Your move determines where your opponent must play next. The position of your placed symbol in the current single field dictates the next single field for the next move. For example, if you place your symbol in the bottom-left corner of the current single field, your opponent is forced to make their next move in the bottom-left single field. Every move requires forward thinking!
What happens if your opponent sends you to a single field that has already been won or is completely full? In this case, you have a free choice! You may place your symbol in any free field on the entire game board. This is the moment that often completely turns a game around.
